Party still mired in factionalism despite electoral defeat, says party leader

Senior Congress leader of Uttarakhand, Yogendra Khanduri has written to the party’s president Mallikarjun Kharge expressing concern at continued factionalism in the party and asking that the party’s Uttarakhand in-charge should be changed.

He has stated in his letter to the Congress president that the Congress in Uttarakhand is engulfed by factionalism. “Even after a defeat in the election, the party is still under the clutches of groupism. No one is able to control it. As a result, the image of the party is neither getting improved among the masses nor is the organisation being strengthened. The State in-charge is responsible for addressing such problems. In any State, the State in-charge is responsible for party activities and its results. The State in-charge is appointed so that the party proceeds in the right direction,” he wrote.

Khanduri further said that he had written to party leader Sonia Gandhi in March this year but there has been no decision to change the State in-charge till now- the reason for it not being understandable.  “Thus, I humbly request you to change the present State in-charge and appoint a senior and experienced party leader as State in-charge of Uttarakhand. In order to assess the situation persisting here, such a person should be sent about whom the State in-charge and senior State leaders are not aware so that the person can submit his objective and real report to party high command,” said Khanduri.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the past, other senior Congress leaders including former chief minister Harish Rawat and former leader of opposition Pritam Singh have made remarks regarding the party’s State in-charge Devendra Yadav.
