In latest Uttarakhand news, the Nainital High Court, while setting aside the appointment of an assistant professor Arushi Uniyal of Garhwal Central University, slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the university for recruiting her in violation of the recruitment rules. In the ruling that delivered a blow to the university authority, the division bench of the High Court said that before fixing the recruitment, the university authority should have presented all facts regarding the recruitment before the academic council of the university to enable it to determine whether Uniyal had the eligibility to be recruited for the post. After the HC’s ruling came, the leaders of the students’ unions of the university torched an effigy of the vice-chancellor and demanded a CBI inquiry into the teachers’ recruitment ‘scam’.
