Hearing on the public interest litigation regarding improper facilities at the government BD Pandey district hospital in Nainital, the Uttarakhand High Court appointed advocate Vikas Bahuguna as the court commissioner. The court has directed him to submit a report on the health facilities in this government district hospital in the court by June 7 when the matter will be taken up next for hearing.

The division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Rakesh Thapliyal issued this direction while hearing on the PIL on Tuesday.

Former teacher and Janhit Sanstha general secretary Ashok Sah had filed the PIL stating that there is dearth of health services in the government BD Pandey district hospital in Nainital. The petitioner had pointed out that the hospital lacks specialist doctors while the CT scan and cardiology department services are negligible. The doctors who are posted in the hospital are often not available on regular timings. On many occasions, it is difficult to find a doctor after 2 PM or 3 PM in the hospital. Despite this being the main hospital of the district, patients are referred to higher centres even for minor issues, the petitioner has stated.
