Find, promote substitutes of single use plastic- CS

The chief secretary of Uttarakhand S S Sandhu has said that the substitutes of single use plastics should be promoted in order to stop its usage. He said that a study should be conducted on these alternatives so that their use is encouraged by providing subsidies. The CS was presiding over a meeting of the special task force set up for preventing single use plastic at secretariat here on Friday. In the meeting the CS said a work plan should be planned for finding alternatives of the single use plastic. He said that Single use plastic is the most harmful and special efforts should be made to prevent its use.

Sandhu added that the special measures should be undertaken to increase awareness about the single use plastic and its harmful effects. He suggested that the possibilities for use of jute bags instead of plastic in the nurseries of the forest department should be explored.

The additional chief secretary (ACS) Anand Bardhan, Secretary Amit Singh Negi and others were present in the meeting.
