In order to help the people with visual impairments the Dehradun district administration has decided to install touch and audio devices at various traffic junctions and intersections under the smart city project. These devices will have motion detectors in them. Upon touching, the device will make an announcement which will help people to cross the roads easily.

The details of the project for facilities for the visually impaired were discussed in a meeting chaired by the Traffic Director Mukhtar Mohsin recently.

In the meeting he said that due to noise on various intersections, the volume of these devices cannot be heard, therefore volume will be increased. He added that for the first phase, these devices will be tested by the students of National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) and people with visual impairment given by smart city project officers and police. After the test is finished, these devices will be installed at various traffic junctions for practical use.
