Covid-19 on fast track in U’khand; 505 new cases reported

This is the highest single day figure in the state in the last seven months.

In an alarming development the state health department reported 505 new cases of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) on Wednesday. This is the highest single day figure in the state in the last seven months. On June 9 last year the health department had reported 513 cases of the disease.

The cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in the state is now at 3,46,468 while a total of 3,31,628  patients have recovered from the disease so far. A total of  7420 people have died in the state so far. The recovery percentage from the disease is at 95.72 per cent while the sample positivity rate on Wednesday was 02.74 per cent.

 The state health department reported a staggering 253 new patients from Dehradun, 64 from Haridwar, 60 from Pauri, 55 from Nainital, 37 from Udham Singh Nagar, nine from  Bageshwar, six from Pithoragarh, five each from Tehri, Almora and Chamoli, three from Champawat, two from Uttarkashi and one from Uttarkashi on Wednesday. 

The state now has 1000 active cases of Covid-19. Dehradun with 511 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Nainital has 203 active cases of the disease. In the ongoing vaccination drive 96,321 people were vaccinated in 1322 sessions in the state held on Wednesday. 

18 students of NIEPVD  detected Covid-19 positive

In what can be termed as a Covid-19 blast as many as 18 students of National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) earlier NIVH were detected positive for the disease on Wednesday. The district surveillance officer of Dehradun Dr Rajiv Dixit said samples of 169 students were taken for testing and out of them reports of 138 had arrived. The NIEPVD authorities has imposed a ban on entry of outsiders in the campus
