The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has termed the decision to set up a camp office of the Chief Minister in Uttarkashi in the final phase of rescue operation in Silkyara as a cheap gimmick. He said the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union minister of State V K Singh want to take credit for the rescue operation of the labourers trapped in the tunnel for about 15 days. He said that the rescue workers are working day and night to evacuate the workers. Mahara said that the BJP government took no lesson from the disaster in Raini in Chamoli and is now trying to hide its failure in Silkyara by trying to take credit for the rescue operation. The PCC president said that this type of work style of the CM and Union minister Singh will not only hinder the rescue operation but also affect the work of the government.

Expressing gratitude of the labourers, employees, engineers, geologists, government officers, personnel of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and experts of five nations engaged in the rescue operation, Mahara said that the BJP has a past history of seeking credit of the hard work of others. He said that by setting up a camp office CM Dhami and his government is pretending to monitor the situation in Silkyara.

The PCC president said that if the safety measures were taken and all the norms were followed in digging of the tunnel then the lives of the 41 labourers would not have been in danger.
