The GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT) administration has started preparation for organising the 114th All-India Kisan Mela in its sprawling campus in Pantnagar in Udham Singh Nagar district. The four-day fair will commence on October 6. As per the university officials the dates have been fixed during the meeting of the kisan mela advisory committee held on Wednesday. The vice- chancellor Manmohan Singh Chauhan presided over the meeting while all the members of the committee were present. The decision on fixing the dates of the fair was unanimous, said the university officials.

Many key points of the fair figured in the meeting like the scientists’ lectures on agricultural activities for the farmers who are expected to turn up in groups, taking the farmers to the research centres of the university, felicitation of the progressive-minded farmers, prize distribution among those who will set up stalls in the fair and the budget to be set aside for successfully organising the fair.

The VC emphasised that it must be ensured that the farmers who will attend the fair face no difficulty in buying the best quality seeds. Besides, the VC said that these farmers must be provided with proper accommodation facilities through the duration of the fair.

He urged the advisory committee members to make sure that the progressive-minded farmers who have successfully adopted innovative means to increase their agricultural productivity are invited to the fair so that other farmers who will assemble at the fair can reap benefits from their innovative experiments in the realm of agriculture.
