Cancer patient hangs himself to end suffering

A man suffering from throat cancer purportedly committed suicide in the Garhi Cannt area of Dehradun on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Rustam Thapa who was living in the Gangol Panditwari village of the area, said the officials. According to them, Thapa who was diagnosed with throat cancer about seven months ago committed suicide by hanging himself, possibly in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The police got the information about the alleged suicide in the morning after which a team of 13 personnel of Cheetah police were sent to the suicide spot. The team found out that Thapa’s body was hanging on a tree near the way to his house with a black electric cable. The police brought the body down from the tree with the help of family members and local people and sent it to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital (Coronation) by 108 Ambulance, said the officials.

They said that the family members of the deceased informed the police that he was diagnosed with throat cancer about seven months ago and was suffering severely due to the disease due to which he reportedly commit suicide to end his pain. It appears to be a suicide case but the police are carrying out the necessary procedure for investigation to ascertain the cause of death, added officials.
