4 from U’khand conferred with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award

The Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar felicitated 84 artistes from varied fields of performing art, all above 75 years, with Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award at a function held in Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. Notably, four of them are from Uttarakhand.  In a significant gesture, the Vice President walked down to the seats of the selected artistes to confer them with the award. The four awardees from Uttarakhand are: Bhairav Dutt Tiwari (79) from Almora, known for his contribution to the promotion of Kumaon folk culture; Jagdish Dhoundiyal (78) from Pauri, known for giving over 2500 performances of the dance drama Kamayani; Narayan Singh Bisht (75) from Chamoli district, known for promoting Jagar traditions of the State and Jugal Kishore Petshaali (76) from Almora, known for writing several books.

The awardees-70 male and 14 female artistes-were given copper plate, Angavastram and cash amount of Rs 1 lakh each.
