The compulsions of politics are taking a toll on the health of politicians. Amid Omicron variant triggering a sudden surge in the number of cases of Covid-19 which the experts are terming as the third wave of the pandemic the process of assembly elections in five states has started. On Tuesday the in charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav was found infected with Covid-19. He himself gave information about his health status and asked those who came into his contact recently to get themselves tested and isolated. Yadav who has isolated himself said that he is having mild symptoms following which he got himself tested on Monday.

On Monday the union minister of state for defence and tourism Ajay Bhatt was found positive for Covid-19. Bhatt who is the Member of Parliament (MP) from Nainital -Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary constituency has isolated himself at his New Delhi residence. On the day the BJP National President J P Nadda and Union Defence minister Rajnath Singh too were found suffering from Covid-19. The experts opine that more and more politicians are likely to get infected in the coming days. “ The cases of the Covid-19 would continue to surge in the coming days. The EC has announced poll schedules in five states and in such a scenario it is practically impossible for the politicians to observe social distancing norms so the chances of their getting infected are very high,’’ said a doctor working in the state health department.
