RO issues notice to AAP, Congress & BJP for alleged violation of MCC

The Returning officer (RO) has issued notices to the leaders of AAP, Congress and BJP leaders of Kaladhungi, Haldwani and Lalkuan constituencies for the alleged violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) in Nainital district. As per the notice issued to the Nainital district president of AAP, Santosh, he allegedly interacted with the locals of the Kaladhungi constituency on January 10 during his door to door campaign without any prior permission from the authority concerned. Stating it to be a blatant violation of MCC and Section 144, the RO has asked for clarification on the issue within 24 hours. The RO has also issued notice to the president of Congress publicity committee, Sumit Hridyesh for allegedly conducting Indira Vikas Sankalp Yatra in several public areas of Haldwani on January 10 with several other supporters violating the rules.

A notice has also been issued to the public relations officer (PRO) of cabinet minister Banshidhar Bhagat on the basis of a Press note allegedly released by him on January 10 in which he has stated about an event organised by the minister in Kaladhungi which was supposedly attended by several party workers. The notice to both the respective parties stated that such gatherings are prohibited till January 16 in the state and are a blatant violation of MCC and Section 144. The RO has asked to provide clarification on the matter within 24 hours of receiving the notice or appropriate action will be taken against them under the relevant acts.
