River rafting training begins in Sarayu

A five-day river rafting training was started in Bageshwar. The training in the Sarayu river is sponsored by Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and is being held under the aegis of Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam. Kapkot MLA Suresh Gadiya inaugurated the training and also took a ride on a raft. Gadiya said that there is immense potential for adventure sports and pilgrimage in the district. There is a need to recognize and capitalize on this potential, he said. The government is working with new ideas to lend a new direction to tourism which will also open up employment opportunities at the local level. He said that the Pindari glacier trek has been declared as one of the two treks of the year which will further boost tourism in the district. Other glaciers like Kahani and Sunderdhunga will also gain recognition, he added. District Tourism officer Kirti Arya informed about the department’s plans in the district. Dinesh Gururani from KMVN gave detailed information about the training. He said that rafting will be conducted from Aarey to Sainj by trained youth.
