The sports minister Rekha Arya said that efforts should be made to construct a playground in every Gram Panchayat throughout the State. She said this on Friday while sharing details about the guidelines for the construction of playgrounds and mini playgrounds in the State.

Arya said that the government has established comprehensive guidelines for the construction of the playgrounds. She stated that the estimated cost for constructing these grounds would be Rs 42,50,000, which includes expenses such as land preparation, leveling, filling and the construction of retaining walls as per the district magistrate’s recommendations. Further, a maximum budget of Rs 50,00,000 has been set, with an allocation of up to Rs 5,00,000 specifically designated for sports equipment, she added.

Arya further said that the range of sports activities that will be facilitated on these grounds will include running, long jump, high jump, throw-based games, kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, football, basketball, taekwondo and boxing.  For training youth in various sports, a trainer will be deployed based on the honorarium fixed by the Sports department. The honorarium will be paid from the district scheme of the Youth Welfare department. The part-time trainer will be given the responsibility of training in multiple sports grounds, she said.

The minister emphasised that the maintenance of the mini stadium will be the main responsibility of the appointed sports trainer. Each year, an amount of Rs 10,000 will be provided from the district scheme for the repair and replacement of sports equipment as needed. The construction of sports grounds and stadia is aimed at promoting sports activities at the local level. These facilities will also facilitate sports competitions among the youth and provide a place for the preparation of physical examinations required for recruitment in various government and non-government departments, Arya said.
