Expedite process of land transfer for Sports university-Arya

 The sports and youth welfare minister Rekha Arya has directed the State administration to expedite the process of transferring 12.317 hectare of land to the sports department for setting up the Sports university in the State . She said that the State administration should also earmark 24.364 hectares of the civil land for compensatory afforestation in the State.  

Arya has written a letter to chief secretary Radha Raturi in this regard. In the letter she said that with the objective of establishing the State as the land of sports, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced setting up of an international standard sports university in Gaulapar Haldwani, Nainital. In this regard the sports and youth welfare department has earmarked 12.317 hectares of land for the sports university. As per rules compensatory afforestation should be done in an area which is double in area than that of this piece of land. In her letter the minister said that the process of earmarking civil land for compensatory afforestation is still pending. Arya suggested that the land earmarked for setting up the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) which is to be shifted from Nainital can be used for this purpose as the proposal of setting up the HC in the area has been rejected.

 The minister said that the State government is committed to encouraging sports talent in the State. She said the State government has provided a quota of four per cent for the sportspersons in the government jobs in an attempt to encourage sports and sportspersons in the State. The setting up of the sports university will provide a platform for the sportspersons to showcase and enhance their skills. 

The department is also giving out of turn promotions to the talented sportspersons. Arya said that the State government is also engaged in preparations for hosting the National Games 2024.
