New Year to begin with dense fog in five districts

The first day of 2024 is set to see foggy conditions in at least five districts of the State. The State meteorological centre has issued an alert regarding the possibility of dense to very dense fog likely to occur at few places in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts of the State during late night and morning hours today. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (watch) regarding the possibility of dense fog likely to occur at few places in plains area of Dehradun, Pauri and Nainital districts during late night and early morning hours. In addition to this, moderate to dense fog is likely to occur in some parts of the plain area of Dehradun, Pauri, Nainital and at many places in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts during late night and morning hours on Monday. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the State today.

For the provisional State capital Dehradun, the meteorological centre has forecast that moderate to dense fog is likely to occur during late night and early morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 22 degrees Celsius and six degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Monday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Sunday were 22.3 degrees Celsius and 6.4 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 17 degrees Celsius and 11 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 13 degrees Celsius and 4.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 16.9 degrees Celsius and five degrees Celsius in New Tehri. The maximum temperature was two degrees above normal in Dehradun while in Pantnagar, the maximum temperature was three degrees below normal and the minimum temperature was six degrees above normal. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Mukteshwar were one degree and three degrees above normal respectively whereas in New Tehri the maximum and minimum temperatures were one degree and two degrees above normal respectively.

Meanwhile, foggy conditions prevailed in the plains till late in the morning in Dehradun and other plain areas of the State on Sunday. The foggy conditions have affected the traffic with fog reducing visibility on the highways in both neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand especially during the morning and late night hours.
