Vintage car & bike rally, musical performances held on third day of Virasat

The third day of the Virasat art and heritage festival began with a vintage and classical car and bike rally on Sunday. Various musical performances were held later in the evening. Earlier in the morning, former principal chief conservator of forests Jai Raj flagged off the vintage and classical car and bike rally from the BR Ambedkar stadium. More than 40 vintage and classical vehicles were part of the rally. The vehicles started off from the stadium and reached Rajpur Road from where it returned to the stadium. A Chevrolet 1926 model and Matchless motorcycle 1942 model- both owned by S Farooq were among the oldest vehicles in the rally. Farooq was adjudged the winner for participating with the maximum number of cars in the rally while Balbeer Sembhi was adjudged the winner for maximum number of bikes. The cultural programme in the evening began with Hindustani slide guitar performance by Debashish Bhattacharya who started his performance with a rendition in Shuddha Kalyan followed by a presentation in Raag Jaijaiwanti.

This was followed by a performance by vocalist Kumud Jha Diwan who began with a Thumri in Kaushik Dhwani. She also performed Dadra and Raag Bhairavi compositions.

The cultural programme concluded with a performance by singer Jasbir Singh ‘Jassi’ who began with a composition by Sufi Bulleh Shah and presented other renditions. It will be recalled that Virasat will continue till November 10. Various artists including famous personalities will be performing in the festival. A crafts village, cuisine stalls, an art fair, heritage walks and other activities are also part of this fortnight-long festival.
