Age cap on new health insurance purchase lifted

Monday, 22 April 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In a significant move, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) lifted the age cap on purchasing health insurance policies, effective from April 1. Earlier, individuals above 65 years of age were barred from purchasing new insurance policies, but now every individual, regardless of age, is eligible to buy mew health insurance policy.

As per the notification issued by IRDA, the insurers must ensure that their policies cater to all age groups. The move is meant to expand the health insurance cover limits to facilitate a more inclusive healthcare ecosystem in the country.
