Monday, 01 April 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Congress has alleged that the double-engine government of the Bharatiya Janata Party has frozen with the people in Uttarakhand and the provisional State capital Dehradun suffering the consequences. The people will bring about a change in the government in this Lok Sabha election, the vice president of Pradesh Congress Committee, Suryakant Dhasmana said. He was addressing the party’s chiefs of blocks and wards in the Dehradun Cantt Vidhan Sabha constituency. Dhasmana said that the people of Uttarakhand had supported the BJP with an open heart during the past 10 years. “The people elected the BJP candidates in all the five Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttarakhand in the elections of 2014 and 2019. They also elected a majority government of the BJP in the State in the 2017 and 2022 Vidhan Sabha elections to fulfill the BJP’s slogan of a double-engine government. Further, the people also elected the BJP in the local body elections of 2018, handing over the power to the party from the bottom level to the top. However, the people will not forgive the BJP for the manner in which the party behaved with the public,” Dhasmana said.

He further alleged that unemployment has reached its peak in the past 10 years and the BJP leaders in the State orchestrated the biggest recruitment scam so far in Uttarakhand to dupe the unemployed. The Congress leader further claimed that the BJP government had only duped the youth in the name of employment by holding large events for industrial investment and bragging about startup and other schemes. “Army recruitment was the biggest source of employment in the State but this was affected by the introduction of the Agnipath scheme by the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is one of the reasons why youth across the State are unhappy with the BJP. The Congress has already decided that the Agnipath scheme will be discontinued and the earlier recruitment system will be resumed on formation of the INDIA bloc government at the Centre,” Dhasmana said. He also exhorted the party workers to focus on ensuring a thumping victory for the Congress’ Tehri Lok Sabha constituency candidate Jot Singh Gunsola.

The Congress Mahanagar chief Jaswinder Singh Gogi said that the party workers will visit every home in the city to inform the voters about the five guarantees of the Congress and seek votes for the party candidates. The Mahila Congress State general secretary Sumitra Dhyani alleged that women are unhappy with the BJP considering the rise in crimes against women in the State.
