The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) has registered eight cases in the chief judicial magistrate’s court against the suppliers of adulterated dairy products in Dehradun district in the past one month. Besides this, a total of 170 cases have been registered by the FDA team in the additional district judge court against the suppliers of adulterated dairy products. The Dehradun district administration has started checking the supply of dairy products arriving in the district to prevent adulteration in sweets ahead of Deepawali.

The district food safety officer PC Joshi said that the FDA team conducted inspection of various establishments on Friday and has also started raising awareness among the sweet shop and dairy owners regarding adulteration and maintaining hygiene in the premises. He said that the team collected five samples of sweets and dairy products and sent them to the lab for quality check. He said that FDA has been actively monitoring the supply of various food products entering the district, especially dairy products which become more susceptible to adulteration due to high demand ahead of festival season. He said that the team has registered about 180 cases in the local court so far against the suppliers from other districts for supplying adulterated dairy products in Dehradun. Joshi appealed to the locals to buy products from reliable shops and file a complaint if they observe any adulteration in any edible product. People can also check out FDA’s website to figure out the simple ways through which one can check adulteration at home in foods like dairy products and cooking oil whose consumption increases during festivals, added Joshi.
