The executive director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh, Dr Meenu Singh inaugurated the training programme ‘Diet and Biomarker Study India (DABS-I)’ in the institute on Wednesday.

DABS- I is a collaborative project between ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR-NIN), Hyderabad and AIIMS Rishikesh.

The project is being conducted across all states and the union territories in India in three phases. The primary objectives of the project are to assess individual food and nutrient intakes among different age groups by using quantitative 24-hour dietary recall and assess the prevalence of anaemia, diabetes, obesity and other related nutritional biomarkers (blood) in the selected households. It also assesses food composition in commonly consumed cooked foods among urban and rural populations.

Data will be collected from 100 villages and urban wards in the districts of Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi under the project.

The State nodal officer of the project and head of community and family medicine at AIIMS Rishikesh Dr Vartika Saxena and scientist and State co-ordinator (DABS-I) Dr Hemant Mahajan and others were present on the occasion.
