WECD minister inaugurates additional rooms in rehabilitation centre for mentally challenged women

The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya inaugurated newly constructed rooms equipped with 40 beds in the Government Women’s Welfare and Rehabilitation Centre for mentally challenged and physically handicapped women on Friday in Dehradun. 

These rooms have been made in the budget of Rs 1.43 crore by the department for women aged above 18 years. She also inaugurated 20 additional bedded rooms in Bal Grah situated in Kedarpuram which have been constructed in a budget of Rs 1.26 crore for females aged from 11 to 18 years. 

Arya said that the new rooms in the rehabilitation centre will provide better facilities for mentally and physically challenged women. She said that many women with different kinds of health issues had to live in the same room at times due to 

non-availability of rooms in the rehabilitation centre but they would not have to face this issue anymore. 

She also said that the department is running Bal Grah which has the facility to look after 50 children. There are currently 16 females here most of whom are orphans, destitute, neglected or disabled and are being rehabilitated under the department. She said that the girls are getting free accommodation, food, clothing and medical facilities besides getting quality education in the nearby school and skill development training. The WECD minister said that the government is making efforts through various means to connect these young females and women to connect with society to help them to lead a better life.
