CS to head committee for beautification of cities

A committee should be formed under the chief secretary for the beautification and development of large cities. Prominent citizens of the city should also be included in this committee. This committee will give its recommendations on what can be done for the beautification of cities. Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat issued these instructions while chairing a meeting with senior officials at his residence on Tuesday.

The CM said that monthly drives should be conducted to remove encroachments from footpaths and other places in cities. The provision for maintenance of all types of roads, drains and other features to be built in the state should be incorporated in the policy. A mechanism should be made to apportion a certain part of the budget for repairing and maintenance. Work should be undertaken towards performance based contract for this. Road dividers should be made in a manner which enables both plantation and rainwater collection, said Rawat. He said that contractors should be given the liberty to patch the potholes themselves and secure reimbursement for it. The CM also directed that arrangements be made for cleaning of statues and fountains at intersections and beautification of flyovers.
