Police to check amusement parks in Doon under Operation Maryada

Following reports of eve-teasing, alcohol consumption and lack of safety measures at the amusement/water parks in Dehradun, the police are planning to extend Operation Maryada to such venues to ensure that visitors do not indulge in such objectionable activities.

Visitors to amusement parks in the plains point out that alcohol consumption by some visitors is spoiling the atmosphere in such places. Commenting on the environment of the amusement parks, a visitor Saloni Kapoor said, “Recently I visited an amusement park in Dehradun for recreation but I got disturbed by the environment and the mismanagement. Visitors at the water park were consuming alcohol openly and in some cases also indulging in eve teasing. Apart from this, the amusement parks in the State lack safety measures in water rides.” Many other visitors have expressed their discomfort concerning the alcohol consumption at amusement park.

Talking to The Pioneer, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Daleep Singh Kunwar said, “We are unaware of such issues in amusement parks so far. The police will look into eve teasing and alcohol consumption at the water parks. Concerning this matter, we will make sure that all the amusement parks are also covered under Operation Maryada just like the religious places and tourist spots. Moreover, the police team will keep a check on them to ensure thyat Operation Maryada guidelines are followed.”

He further said that if any amusement park management does not follow the guidelines issued under Operation Maryada, the police will take strict action against the establishment. In the past the police have taken stringent action against such elements, he added.
