Monsoon session: Uncertainty still prevails over venue of session

CM and assembly speaker to inspect Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali hall located in the state secretariat today

With less than a week remaining for the start of the monsoon session of Uttarakhand assembly, the Vidhan Sabha secretariat is yet to decide about the place where the session would be held. With various options still being considered, the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has suggested that the possibilities of holding the session in the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali hall located in the state secretariat should be explored. The CM and assembly speaker Premchand Agarwal would hold a joint inspection of the newly built hall in the state secretariat on Thursday. The duo had recently inspected the assembly hall of Vidhan Sabha and discussed the possibilities of holding the session.

The speaker Premchand Agarwal said that different possibilities are being explored for holding an organised and proper session. He said that the hall inside the secretariat would be inspected on Thursday in this regard.

The speaker added that all efforts are being made to make a proper sitting plan for MLAs while ensuring that all safety measures in view of the Covid-19 pandemic are followed.

The monsoon session of the Uttarakhand assembly is slated to start from September 23. However the Covid-19 regulation has plunged to the Vidhan Sabha secretariat to ponder over various options for successful holding of the session.

The hall of the assembly building in Dehradun is faced with acute shortage of space. The Vidhan Sabha authorities are trying to accommodate some members in the galleries for the session and request senior members to attend the session virtually. However the idea of virtual attendance has been rejected by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in state assembly Indira Hridayesh. She has made it clear that all the 11 MLAs of Congress party would attend the house.
