Lifestyle, lack of exercise & junk food raise chances of heart attacks

A sedentary lifestyle, obesity and consumption of junk food are some factors that have been linked to increased heart attack risk among people, state experts. Recently, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) conducted a study and is still exploring the links between heart attacks and Covid-19. Regarding this experts point out that a change in food habits and lack of physical activity leads to increased heart attack risk among people. Timely precautions can save people from heart attacks, said the experts.

Senior cardiologist Dr Irfan Yaqoob said, “I have encountered a number of heart attack cases in recent times but I can’t say that heart attack has a direct link with Covid-19. Lifestyle plays a big role in heart disease. Nowadays younger people face experience heart attacks more due to changes in lifestyle, junk food and lack of physical activity.”

He further said that awareness play a major role in prevention of heart attacks. With efforts to raise awareness people will know about the causes that lead to heart attacks. He stressed that physical exercise is the main factor that can prevent heart attacks.

Public health consultant Dr Mahesh Bhatt said, “Many researches have been conducted over the time and some claim that Covid-19 has a direct link with heart attacks among people. However, we can say changes in eating habits, lifestyle and stress are the major factors behind heart attacks, especially among the younger people. To prevent such cardiac issues, it is better to consume healthful food instead of junk food. Apart from this, overcoming the stress by doing meditation will also save the people from heart attacks.” —
