The Culture department intends to enhance the existing gallery at the Himalayan Culture Centre (HCC) in order to foster a deeper connection between the people and the State’s cultural heritage.

The director of the department Beena Bhatt informed that consistent efforts are being made to promote and conserve the State’s culture. The department plans to upgrade the current gallery at the HCC as a means to attract a larger audience to the facility, she said.

She further informed that in order to ensure the proper functioning of the HCC, a committee consisting of seven members has been established under the supervision of the chief secretary. The committee has the authority to make all decisions related to the efficient operation and benefits of the HCC, in consultation with the Culture department. She emphasised that the said committee has been registered to ensure proper functioning of the HCC.

Bhatt further stated that the department has recruited 28 persons to provide assistance at the specific location in the HCC. As the galleries are upgraded and new replicas of existing artifacts are added, more temporary assistants will be hired. Additionally, an annual maintenance contract has also been entered into to oversee the regular maintenance of the HCC, she added.

It will be recalled that the HCC was recently built and it is the first cultural centre in the State which will continue to present a lively picture of the rich cultural heritage while also working towards passing on the cultural heritage to future generations.
