The police have arrested a man from Uttar Pradesh involved in the theft of crores of rupees from Dehradun, whose elder son, a sub-inspector in Delhi police, also allegedly helped him in hiding the money, said the Dehradun superintendent of police (City) Sarita Dobhal. In a Press conference here on Friday, she said that the police arrested a property broker Sunny (36) on August 21 with Rs 2.6 crore cash which he had stolen from a house in the Raipur area. He revealed during the investigation that he stole the money with the help of his accomplice Dheeraj who belongs to UP’s Baraut. She said, “A police team was sent to Baraut where it looked for Dheeraj in all possible places. The police found that Dheeraj’s wife and his father live in the village there and his brother is in the Delhi police. The locals revealed that Dheeraj had arrived at his home for a day after committing the theft. The police got a tip-off that his father Bhudev (62) was planning to hide the stolen money in some place after which the officials started keeping a close eye on him. The police arrested him on Thursday and recovered a total of Rs 48 lakh hidden in a sack.” The SP said that Bhudev revealed during the investigation that when he came to know that the police were looking for Dheeraj, he went to Delhi to meet his son Neeraj.  “He has claimed that his son Neeraj told him that Dheeraj has stolen crores of rupees in Dehradun with the help of his friend Sunny. Bhudev and his sons made a plan to hide the money that was present at Neeraj’s home at that time, as per the father. They gave him Rs 48 lakh cash to hide which he brought back with him and was going to bury it when the police caught him,” said Dobhal. She said that the police are verifying the claims of Bhudev and will soon take action against both of his sons accordingly.
