Questioning the silence of the State government on the issue of the alleged sexual exploitation of visually impaired girls in Haldwani, the spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said the BJP is not taking the issue seriously. Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of State Congress on Friday, Dasauni said that the Women and Child Development minister is also silent on the matter. She alleged that the Haldwani police sat over the matter for one and half months.

The Congress leader also criticised the decision of the Union government to impose 18 per cent GST on Ganga Jal. She said that the government was forced to take back the decision after the Congress party raised the issue and strongly opposed it. Dasauni said that whenever Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Uttarakhand he makes mention of Baba Kedar and Ma Ganga but the decision to impose GST on Ganga showed that the hunger for money has taken a toll on the wisdom of the BJP.

Dasauni said that during the tenure of Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank as CM, the then Tourism minister Madan Kaushik came up with a similar proposal to impose tax on Ganga Jal. This proposal was strongly opposed by the people of Uttarakhand following which the BJP government was forced to cancel the plan to tax Ganga Jal.

Dasauni also attacked the mining policy of the State government and said that the High Court has recently ordered a stay on the e-tendering process.  She said that the court order has dealt a blow to the mining policy of the State and shows that the government lacks a concrete mining policy.
