The Dehradun chief development officer Jharna Kamthan has directed the officials to create and launch products in the markets via women self help groups (SHGs) as per the demand. Products and quality of locally oriented items, especially those made by the SHGs of rural areas, must be publicised to provide them with a proper market and strengthen them financially. Kamthan stated this in the review meeting of the Rural Enterprise Acceleration Project (REAP) formed under Uttarakhand Gramya Vikas Samiti. She also recommended providing training in making clothes such as kurta, shirt and other items as per the demand and setting up a unit on a large scale to carry out other associated works like packaging. She said that the officials need to pay more attention to quality production, better packaging and marketing of products made by SHGs. The project manager informed the CDO that various enterprises at the group and cluster level will be set up with mutual coordination and cooperation with other departments. This initiative will help women to get more employment opportunities which will result in more revenue generation. The administration has also proposed varied training for rural women under the project which is expected to be approved soon, he added.
