The National Federation of Farmers’ Procurement, Processing and Retailing Cooperatives of India Limited (NACOF) which currently manages garbage processing work in the solid waste management and recycling plant in Sheeshambada will send newly generated refuse derived fuel to two prominent cement companies in Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The company has signed a contract with these companies which will get about 1,600 metric tonnes of RDF every month, said the chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna. He said that the first company Ambuja Cements Limited located in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh will receive 500 metric tonnes of RDF every month. NACOF will get paid Rs 14 lakh every month for selling 500 metric tonnes of RDF. Besides this, NACOF will send about 100 metric tonnes of RDF to JK Cement Works located in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The cement company will pay Rs 2.71 lakh for 300 metric tonnes of RDF every month, said Khanna. He informed that NACOF is also sending RDF to some other companies as per demand but the demand and supply are not regular. The company has also installed some new machines to produce good quality RDF which will be sold to the prominent cement companies of the country. He said, “It is a big relief for the company as well as for the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) that the newly generated RDF will not accumulate in the plant’s premises. Good quality RDF is being generated which will ensure its regular supply and demand in the future too.” Talking about the corporation’s disposal plan regarding RDF that has accumulated in the plant over the past five years, Khanna said that a team of scientists from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee is expected to visit the plant in a few days to analyse it. “They will check the quality of RDF, its calorific value, presence of inert material and heavy metals among other factors. They will give their report to the MCD after completing their visit. We will look into their recommendations and suggestions to formulate a strategy to dispose of the RDF via scientific methods,” he added.
