Most cinema halls in the city went house full on Friday due to movie tickets being offered at reduced prices. The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) and cinemas nationwide celebrate October 13 as National Cinema Day, offering movie tickets for Rs 99 on the occasion. Commenting on the discount tickets offered on the occasion, college student Paras Negi said that he makes it a point to attend the movies on this particular day every year because the ticket prices are reasonable considering his pocket money. Additionally, he observed that the cinema hall is always packed on this day.

School student Anshika Verma said, “I have accompanied my classmate to watch a movie. It has become a yearly tradition for me to go with my friends to watch a movie on National Cinema Day. The prices on this particular day are significantly reasonable and accessible for everyone, particularly for students who rely solely on their allowance. However, the cinema authorities should also extend discounts on food items on this occasion.”

Silvercity Multiplex manager Jaipal Singh Bisht told this correspondent that typically, the cinema hall witnesses a large influx of people on regular days. However, on National Cinema Day, the multiplex becomes packed with students from colleges and schools. All movie screenings in the multiplex are completely booked. The offer only applies to tickets, which eventually impacts the cinema hall’s canteen area, he added.

Bisht further said that despite the availability of OTT platforms, the enthusiasm for watching movies in cinema halls still persists among the general public.
