Most citizens in Dehradun are looking forward to getting their wards in the 15-18 years age group vaccinated against Covid-19. On the day when the drive to vaccinate youngsters in this age group began in the state, this correspondent sought the view of the intended beneficiaries and their parents regarding the vaccination.

Preeti Sharma, mother of 17 year old said, “I am very happy with this news. We were not sending our kids to schools because our kids were not vaccinated and schools do not have a controlled environment. Moreover the new variants coming up have increased our fear. Therefore, kids receiving the vaccine is such a relief.”

Tanuj Singh, father of a student added, “Vaccination in schools is a great initiative as it will be done in an easy way. Moreover, every kid will get vaccinated and that too with proper management.” He further said that it is more convenient than looking for the vaccination slots online and having to wait for a long period of time if the slots are unavailable.

Khushboo Negi, a student, said, “This is a good decision made by the government as our parents were not sending us to the schools due to the fear of Covid. Moreover, you never know whether the kids are sick due to seasonal flu or are Covid positive and it increases the chances of spread of the virus. Being vaccinated provides some reassurance.”

An 18 year old on condition of anonymity said, “I am afraid to get vaccinated due to the side effects like fever and headache. Moreover, I live in the village, far from the city, where the threat of Covid-19 is not that high.”
