The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara led the Congress workers in paying homage to the martyrs at Martyrs memorial, Cheer Bagh on the occasion of Kargil Victory day on Wednesday. Mahara said that the Indian soldiers exhibited unforeseen bravery in the 60 day long war. Taking a dig at the then government, the PCC president said that those in power didn’t take the information provided by the intelligence system due to which the Pakistani troops occupied higher positions in the mountains. He added that the apathy of the government and its strategic failure resulted in a large number of casualties of soldiers in Kargil war.

The PCC president said that many promises were made by the government for the welfare of the family members of the martyrs but they didn’t get all the benefits. He gave some examples of the unfulfilled promises to the family members of martyrs on the occasion. Referring to the recent incident in Manipur, Mahara said that the wife of one of former army personnel who fought in the Kargil war was humiliated.

The president of Mahanagar unit of Congress party Jaswinder Singh Gogi said that the country would always remain indebted to the martyrs.
