Impasse continues on vend zone relocation

Friday, 05 January 2024 | PNS | NAINITAL

In latest news from Uttarakhand, though detailed discussions were held on identifying vending zone in Nainital at a meeting attended among others by the executive officers of the Nainital municipal council Rahul Anand and Puja Tamta and the administrator of the civic body K N Goswami, things did not make much headway with the vendors continuing to oppose the vend zone relocation move.  Goswami said that two more meetings would be held this month-on January 15 and 30-and the new vend zone would be set up under any circumstances by March- end. While the vendors insisted they would not leave Pant Park from where they have been trading, Sinha made it clear that the administration must relocate the vend zone from Pant Park to other sites in adherence to the High Court order. Seven places, including Ghoda Stand and Barapathar, have been included in the list of places where the vend zone may be but the traders refused to back down from their stand, arguing that the relocation would impact their trade negatively with the tourists hardly coming to these places.
