In latest news from Uttarakhand, with winter tourism at peak, visitors from across the country are now crowing around Govind Ballabh Pant High Terrestrial Zoological Park or the Nainital Zoo. The birds and animals which are attracting the tourists most are Uttarakhand’s State bird Monal, Red Panda and a number of animals which are found in the Himalayan region only.   Notably, a pair of red pandas was brought here from Darjeeling. They along with Rajasthani peacocks, Himalayan bears and blue sheep have been fascinating the tourists. The zoo officials said that they have been making efforts for the past few years to bring more Monals and the Himalayan black beer to the zoo and added that they have got the long-awaited approval from the Central Zoo Authority.   They further said that following receipt of approval, they have brought a pair of Monal and two pairs of Cheer Pheasant aside from male and female bears from the Himalayan Nature Park, Kufri in Himachal Pradesh.  These new entrants into the zoo are completely healthy as the zoo authorities have taken pains to provide them the same environment they were having while in Kurfi.  Recently, a scheme for adoption of animals and birds in the zoo has been rolled out under which   any person can adopt and feed them. This has become quite a popular scheme among the people, the zoo officers said.
