HC seeks action taken report from Govt in cooperative bank recruitment irregularities

The Uttarakhand High Court has directed the State government to submit a report in two weeks on the action taken on the report of the three-member inquiry committee regarding the irregularities in recruitment to group D positions in district cooperative banks in the State. The division bench of chief justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Rakesh Thapliyal issued this direction while hearing on the public interest litigation filed against irregularities in the process for recruitment to group D positions in district cooperative banks.

During the hearing on Friday, the copy of the inquiry report was submitted in the court by the State government. It was stated that the inquiry committee has submitted its report to the State government on which the government has to take a decision. The committee members Neeraj Belwal and Cooperation secretary BVRC Purushottam also appeared in the court. The HC asked the secretary whether the matter should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation as demanded. He informed the court that the three-member committee had submitted its report to the government in June and that the government has to take a decision on it. Agreeing to this, the court gave two weeks time to the government.

Haridwar resident Priyanshu Tyagi had filed the PIL stating that advertisement for recruitment to 423 group D positions in cooperative banks in the State was issued in 2020. The petitioner has contended that various irregularities have come to light in the recruitment process. Relatives of officials and political leaders had been selected while considerable amounts of money were taken from some candidates to appoint them, the petitioner has contended.
