The police issued a challan of Rs 5,000 to the management of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) on Saturday for keeping their construction material on the road in Araghar area for several months causing daily traffic issues, potential risk of accidents and not cooperating with police. The Dehradun superintendent of police (traffic) Akshay Konde has also warned of filing an FIR against the management of GAIL if they still fail to remove the material from the roadside area soon. He said that a pipe about 200 metres long belonging to GAIL has been lying in a roadside area of Araghar for the past several months causing nuisance to commuters and potential accident risk. Many locals have also been complaining about it. The SP said that the traffic department has also marked the said route as a VIP route where prominent persons of Y/Z category commute on a regular basis.

The police have conveyed this issue to GAIL’s management and verbally asked them to remove the pipe from the roadside area multiple times but they failed to comply, said Konde. He informed that it is an offense under section 283 of the IPC (causing danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) to leave construction goods and material unattended on a road. Considering the non-cooperation of the GAIL management with the police in the matter, the SP issued an order to the in-charge of Dalanwala police station to take appropriate action in the matter under the Police Act.

On the directions of the SP, the police station in-charge issued a challan of Rs 5,000 to GAIL management on Saturday. Konde said that the trend of keeping construction material on the road by the management carrying out construction works in the city area is increasing and traffic police have been conducting campaigns to check such acts. Appropriate action will be taken against such illegal acts in future too,  he added.
