Labourers working on border area road fall sick from wild mushrooms

Labourers working for a contractor of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) living in the Gur Kuti village in the Niti valley near the Indo-China border region in Chamoli district fell sick after consuming wild mushrooms. The labourers were currently working on road cutting work being undertaken from Malari to Niti. According to sources, nine of the workers fell sick after consuming wild mushrooms. The sick workers were brought to the army hospital in Malari. They were shifted to the army hospital in Joshimath after their condition deteriorated in Malari. They are currently undergoing treatment in Joshimath. According to information received from sources, the condition of two of the labourers is stated to be serious while the condition of seven workers is said to be stable. Two of the labourers identified as Pavitra and Manoj Sharma are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit while the condition of other labourers identified as Durga, Vinita, Janak Singh, Krishnagiri, Hari and Bhawna is stated to be stable.
