Dehradun traffic police has launched the first app based smart parking management system of the State in association with a private company (Park+). The app will help car operators to check out nearest available parking space which is currently one of the prominent traffic issues across the district, said the superintendent of police, traffic, Akshay Konde. He said that the people can also use the empty space available to them and register it as a parking space that will be helpful in managing traffic congestion and locals can also earn some money through it. He said that traffic police have been making constant efforts to streamline the traffic system within the city, especially the parking issue. He said that many people tend to park their vehicles outside shops in marketplaces or in any non-parking zones that tend to disrupt the traffic.

Besides this, many do not park vehicles at distant parking spaces in various locations. To tackle such hindrances in busy areas, the traffic police have given an option to locals to offer their vacant land as public parking space without any requirement of getting approval from any official at any level, said Konde. He said that school grounds, parking of wedding venues and similar properties can also be provided for parking on the weekend when traffic congestion increases across the city. Authorities will even make sure that no encroachment occurs on such vacant lands after being used as parking spaces. He said that interested locals can also register such parking space in the Park+ app as per their will. He said that the app will show the users all the available parking spaces within the radius of three kilometres and will also help them in reaching the selected parking.
