Rs 1.73 crore fine imposed for illegal mining

The authorities have imposed a total penalty of about Rs 1.73 crore for illegal mining in the area. Acting on information received, officials of the geology and mining unit found that 8,400 cubic metres sub minerals were illegally mined in 1.518 hectare area of Mukesh Chandra’ private land at Semalchaud in Kaladhungi.

The team imposed a fine of Rs 25,87,200 in this case. In the same area, the team has written to the authorities for imposing a fine of Rs 1.47 crore for illegal mining of 32,032 cubic metres of sub minerals. Geology and mining unit additional director Rajpal Legha said that complaints were being received about illegal mining in the Kaladhungi area for some time. The team had seized a mechanical excavator being used for illegal mining on May 24.

However on Monday, the same machine was found being used for illegal mining. He said that in the past too a penalty of Rs four crore was imposed on the same land owner. The authorities have once again seized the mechanical excavator along with two dumpers.
