Party workers demonstrate at SBI and LIC offices across State

The Congress party held protests outside the branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) and Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India in all the districts of the State on Monday. The protests were part of the countrywide protests the party had planned against the failure of the government to take any action in the  alleged Adani scam.

In Dehradun, the Congress workers led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara held a protest outside the main branch of SBI.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahara said that both the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home minister Amit Shah have maintained a silence on the issue of Adani scam. People have lost their money but the Finance minister too is maintaining that the issue would not affect the economy of the country. Mahara said that a scam to the tune of Rs 10 lakh crore is coming to fore and many banks and LIC have invested their money in the Adani group of companies. The PCC president expressed apprehension that everything has happened under the patronage of the Government of India. He said that the Congress party demands that an independent investigation should be ordered in the case. Mahara said that the Congress leaders in the parliament have demanded that a Joint Parliamentary Committee should be constituted in the scam.

The former PCC president Pritam Singh said that the people of the country who were shown the dreams of ‘Acche Din’ have been stabbed in the back by the Modi government. He said that the people of the country should become united and come out of their houses to protest against corruption. Singh said that the Modi government gave works in all sectors to the Adani group and it threw its full might to make Adani rule over the business world. It is the result of this support that the general public is feeling cheated by the sinking of the Adani group.

Former PCC president Ganesh Godiyal said that it is very surprising that American company Hindenburg is doing what the Securities and Exchange Board of India, Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and Income Tax department should have done. He said that the hard earned money of the people is being looted but instead of taking action, the Union government is bent on protecting Gautam Adani. Godiyal said that apart from other investors the SBI and LIC too have come under danger due to the scam because they have given loans of thousands of crores to Adani. He said that the economy of the country which was already under stress has come under threat due to the scam. The vice president (Organisation) Mathura Dutt Joshi, general secretary (Organisation) Vijay Saraswat, vice president Surya Kant Dhasmana and others participated in the protest.
