Party high command formulates strategy for Lok Sabha elections with state leaders in New Delhi
The central leadership of Congress party has directed the State party unit to focus on the issues of Agniveer scheme and unemployment for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the State. The State Congress would organise a Padyatra in the State on these issues. The Yatra would be attended by top leaders of Congress party including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. This decision was taken in a marathon meeting of party high command and leaders of Uttarakhand Congress in New Delhi on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by Rahul Gandhi, general secretary organisation K C Venugopal, in charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, leader of opposition Yashpal Arya and former chief minister Harish Rawat. After the meeting, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi shared pictures of the meeting on social media.
Interacting with the media persons, the in charge of State Congress, Devendra Yadav said that strategy for the Lok Sabha elections of 2014 was discussed in the meeting. The suggestions and the programmes formulated in the meeting will provide strength to the Congress party in the State.
The PCC president Mahara said that the Agniveer scheme has proved detrimental for Uttarakhand. He said that Uttarakhand is the house of Garhwal and Kumaon regiments and youngsters here desire to work in the armed forces but the Agniveer scheme has shattered their dreams. Mahara said that Padyatra would be taken out in the State to highlight the failure of the Agniveer scheme. He said that the plan for the Yatra would soon be prepared and added that both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi would attend this Yatra. Mahara clarified that the issues such as Ankita Bhandari murder case and atrocities on women would also be raised by the party but the focus of the Yatra would be on Agniveer scheme, recruitment scams and injustice to the unemployed.
The LoP Yashpal Arya said that desire for change is clearly visible in Uttarakhand and the Congress party is planning to set up a communication with the people of the state. He said that BJP has cheated the youngsters of the State in the name of Agniveer scheme. Arya said that Dalits are being exploited and the murders of Ankita Bhandari are yet to be identified. He said that the party stands united to fight the BJP.
