The workers of the Congress party burned the effigy of the national general secretary and in charge of Uttarakhand unit of BJP Dushyant Guatam here on Thursday in protest against his unsavoury comment on Congressmen. The BJP leader had said that the Congress leaders visit temples to tease girls after which triggered strong protest from the Congress party. On the day the Congress workers led by the officiating president of the Mahanagar Congress Jasvinder Singh Gogi assembled at the State headquarters of the party and then marched to the Astley hall. Shouting slogans against Gautam and the BJP, the Congress workers burned the effigy of the BJP leader.
Speaking on the occasion, Gogi said that Gautam with his unsavoury comment has not only assassinated the character of Congress workers but also insulted the women of the country. Accusing the BJP leader of offending the religious sentiments of the followers of Hinduism, Gogi said the comment exposes the mindset of the BJP leaders. He said that Gautam has lost his mental balance and the BJP should get him treated first otherwise the Congress workers are ready to treat him. Gogi said that it is surprising that whenever some BJP leader engages in insulting women the women leaders and spokespersons of BJP maintain a stoic silence.
The Vice President of State Congress Puran Singh Rawat, general secretary Manish Nagpal, Asha Dobariyal Sharma and others were present on the occasion.
