The Bharatiya Janata Party State president Mahendra Bhatt has opined that the Karnataka Assembly election victory has gone to the Congress’ head while at the same time it is ignoring its major defeat in the local body elections in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. The Congress should not be under any delusion due to the Karnataka victory. He said that the Congress leaders in Uttarakhand are not sad at their party being wiped off in the UP local body elections but are celebrating the electoral win achieved thousands of kilometres away in Karnataka.

The Congress will face its real test in the coming local body and Lok Sabha elections, he said. Bhatt said, “Even after repeating its 36 per cent vote share performance in Karnataka, the BJP is moving forward to achieve a 51 per cent vote share in Uttarakhand. The biggest victory achieved so far in the local body elections in neighbouring UP will definitely exert its maximum influence in Uttarakhand. The BJP is a cadre-based party and instead of focusing only on election results, it works among the people with a sense of service throughout the year. The other parties appear among the people mainly during the elections and are not bothered about the issues of the public. The Congress which pretends to fight the battle of democracy should praise the EVMs now because on being rejected by the public, it is habituated to target the election agencies.”

The BJP State president said that Uttarakhand is progressing under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people have faith in the transparent policies of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The Congress should go to the public and undertake survey work. This will enable it to fulfill its role of an opposition while also making it ascertain its image in the public, said Bhatt.
