Roorkee men arrested for theft in Doiwala

The Dehradun Police have arrested two members of a gang that stole cash and jewellery worth lakhs from two houses in Doiwala area. The accused used to check out potential houses in areas during the day and then carried out theft when there is a fair or weekly market organised nearby when the owners are not likely to be at home, said the station house officer of Doiwala Mukesh Tyagi. 

A woman filed a complaint in the Doiwala police station on July 23 stating that some unknown thieves has stolen jewellery and cash from her almirah the previous night when there was nobody at home situated in the Harrawala area. Considering this, a police team was formed that analysed CCTV camera footage of 150 cameras installed near the house of the victim. The police identified two accused from the footage and arrested them from Roorkee in Haridwar on Saturday. The thieves have been identified as Mukkaram (43) and Shameem (34).

Besides this, the police have also arrested a jeweller Ibadatulla (47) from Roorkee who was reportedly buying stolen pieces of jewellery from the thieves. The SHO said that the thieves have stated that they were roaming in the area where the weekend market is held when they noticed a locked house. They immediately broke the lock and stole all the cash and jewellery from the house and escaped. They have also confessed to committing theft in another house in the area two months ago, said Tyagi.

He said that the police have recovered the stolen cash of about Rs 4.5 lakh along with silver and gold jewellery worth lakhs. He said that the police are looking into the criminal history of the arrested accused and will soon present them before the court.
