The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has done the installation work of over 92 per cent of LED street lights across the city and the remaining will be completed by the end of November.

The municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela informed this on Monday on the complaints of councillors and locals about the delay in the installation of street lights. He said that the EESL Company, which has been appointed by the corporation for the installation of the street lights, has installed a total of 89,000 street lights across the city. He said, “The MCD has planned to install about 95,000 LED street lights as per the requirement in the old and new wards of the city. Till date 89,000 street lights have already been installed across the city. We have covered almost all the wards with rural areas and only two wards are left where the work is yet to start.

The company will finish the installation work in these words by the end of this month too.” The commissioner said that the corporation will also erect a total of 3,000 electric poles, most of which will be installed in rural areas. “The installation work would have finished sooner if the supply of street lights had not got delayed due to the Covid curfew earlier this year. The work is on the track and will be finished soon,” stated the commissioner.  He said that he has also instructed the company to take cognisance of the complaints regarding the maintenance of the street lights as many counsellors had complained about the apathetic attitude of the company towards such complaints.
