One more MLA demands winter session of Assembly in Doon

Friday, 04 November 2022 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The clamour in support of holding the winter session of the State Assembly in Dehradun is increasing among the legislators. On Wednesday, the independent MLA from Yamunotri Sanjay Dobhal requested the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that the upcoming winter session of Assembly should not be held in Gairsain.

In a letter to the CM, Dobhal said that respecting the sentiments of the general public the summer session of the Vidhan Sabha should be held at Gairsain in Chamoli while the winter session should be organised in Dehradun. Dobhal is the third MLA  to demand that the winter session should be held in Dehradun. On Wednesday the independent MLA from Khanpur Umesh Kumar had made a similar request while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Mohammad Shahjad had said that in view of the excessive rainfall, expected snowfall and cold conditions in Gairsain, the upcoming session should be held in Dehradun.

The winter session of the Uttarakhand Assembly is required to be held before December 16. The Uttarakhand government dithered from holding the budget session of the Assembly in Gairsain in the month of June this year due to the Char Dham Yatra. As per the rules there should not be a gap of more than six months between two sessions of Vidhan Sabha. The State government has to take a decision on the place–Gairsain or Dehradun– for holding the winter session. Recently the speaker of the Assembly Ritu Khanduri had convened a meeting of the leaders of the legislature parties to discuss the session.  It is pertinent to mention here that the Dhami government has not organised a single session in Gairsain. The last session in Gairsain was held in March 2021.
