In protest against what it termed gross irregularities in the recruitment of forest guards and inordinate delay in every recruitment process in Uttarakhand, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) organised a march to the state secretariat on Tuesday. To support the student wing of the party, former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh attended the march. The march started from the state headquarters of the Congress party but the administration prevented the march from proceeding further near St Joseph’s academy. On being stopped the angry supporters of NSUI squatted on the road and started a Dharna.

The president of the state unit of NSUI, Mohan Bhandari said that unemployment is all time high in Uttarakhand. He said that the unemployed had some hopes from the forest guard recruitment examination but gross irregularities occurred in the examination which has frustrated the youth. Bhandari alleged that the state government is misleading the unemployed. He said that those who were involved in corruption in the forest guard recruitment should be exposed by the SIT and the examination result should be released. He demanded that the stalled process of recruitment in all the departments should start failing which the NSUI would further intensify its agitation.
