A 22-year-old resident of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh was found dead in a gorge near Sahiya at Chakrata in Dehradun district on Friday. The officials informed that the police got information about a person who had fallen into a gorge about four kilometres before Sahiya around 1:20 AM on Friday.
The police called the team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the spot to start the rescue operation but unfavourable conditions like darkness and the extremely inaccessible route in the night caused considerable delay in the rescue. The officials called another team of SDRF to the spot to conduct a joint rescue operation in difficult conditions.
The team finally reached the victim with the help of a rope. The victim was a young man who was found dead at the spot. The police have identified him as Dev Chauhan (22) from Bijnor and suspect his death to be an accident. The police said that they are investigating the matter and the body would be handed over to his family soon after completion of the required procedure.
